The Pursuit of Happiness can easily be found in Pizza

Life in its glamour is splendiferous, wait, no, I meant shitty. It’s boring and draining and no one can stand it. We face failures, we are stressed, we want a Hawaii trip to release our stress but we are broke, and then we are stressed and depressed. We then start playing music to calm ourselves but of course, Migos can’t stop rapping about their wealth, what the fuck!

This understanding is shared by all of us, for the word ‘shitty’ was born when we too, were born. Each person has moments in their day when they sit down and contemplate such periods when they did not want to sit down. Oh, you thought you were the only one? I’m sorry to break it down for you, these moments are mutual.

There are, however, rare instances when life is beautiful. Pretty. When laughter is heard, and the sunset is caught, Drake drops an album. And sometimes when all pieces collide, the perfect taste of pizza greases on our lips. These moments are magical. However, in search of these feelings, we become our own obstacle to actually finding them. How? Well...

Instances like these become everything. They are dependable, full of happiness. They lurk us into waiting for them. And on occasions, they show up. Like Disney fairytales, there is love and beauty in everything and everyone. There is also sex.

Despite all that though, the pursuit of those rare feelings entangles us into despair. Because those once in a while jackpots, with time, have no effects anymore. Just like anything that happens often, humans become immune, and wearily. Except for Douglas Adam’s ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the galaxy’ book and Kanyombya videos, I never get enough.

But man doesn't surrender. It is in his nature to give up, but not here. Not when he’s in search for the warmth that used to arouse him and brighten his days with hope and courage, definitely not here. So, more efforts to better savor life are put in. More parties, more night outs, dating apps, sports, a little splash of cocaine, a big splash of cocaine, you name it, it’s done. Anything for that juicy sweet feeling to come back. Anything.

However, with every new effort, every new adventure or risk, every new attempt to spice up life, we eventually feel nothing. Like riding a rollercoaster the fourth time in a row, you get enough. And we are shitty to think that a good moment will happen again. That when our parents rewarded us money for acing the exams, it would be repetitive. Because when it doesn’t happen, it's our whole world that goes upside down. So we force our chances like a car engine that overslept. We push again and again, with no response.

More so, we stay shitty in the whole process. Trusting the universe to transcend on our commands, wishing that nature works in our favor, that it obeys. We are childish for believing such nonsense, for hoping. In the end, days are spent lurking for the feelings lost, drowning in one’s thoughts and pain, with a realization that there is no swimming this one out. That the search for happiness is simply bullshit. And ladies and gents, that’s how we become our own obstacle.

A solution you ask? A solution there is. The only remedy to this gripping path down the hill is changing one's perspective. For adapting to shitty moments makes them less shitty, for loving what you have massively eludes the pursuit of a perfect sunset in Hawaii.

It’s like this: accept the flaws in your life, the moments that suck, all the downs. Because it is with them, that every step upwards brings a little happiness and gratefulness. And it happens without you constantly thinking about it. Also, accept that time you got scammed with torn Air Jordans on Amazon, I know that hurt. The longer your tongue is bitter, the sweeter it gets when sugar is swallowed. God, that’s so weird to say.

Life is shitty and hectic. But for some briefs of instances, it’s winning the lottery, it’s your dreams becoming true, or simply, love from a new encounter. However the more you wish these feelings stay, the more they decimate. Appreciate every situation, with the understanding that happiness occurs in the moment, and only in the moment will you feel happy. And who knows? your crush might text you back tonight!

Sometimes, life is a bitch, then you die. But sometimes, life is a bitch and you keep living. Mostly, however, life is a bitch and a slice of pizza can make a whole difference.
